Light microscope footage of Cochliopodium sp., showing the movement of this naked amoeba in timelapse. The original capturing time was about 3 min. At the beginning of the clip the nucleus is in focus, at the end of the clip the amoeba defecates. Cochliopodium amoebae are partially enclosed with a flexible wall covered with microscales, sometimes with additional spines. The form of the microscales only is visible in electron microscopes. In the light microscope they appear as small dots. When Cochliopodium gets over small particles, the double-layer structure of the flexible wall with microscales can be seen. The amoeba was collected from a small freshwater brook habitat. Microscopic contrast method used: differential interference contrast. Captured field width: 0.17mm | |
