German rocket scientists from Operation Paperclip. Footage of German rocket scientists at Wright Field, Ohio, USA. They are working on research projects for the US government, having been brought to the USA from 1945 onwards as part of Operation Paperclip, the effort to recruit German scientists that started from July 1945, during the last months of World War II. The footage shows German rocket scientists strolling in the barracks at Wright Field, sunning themselves on a beach near the barracks, and entering and leaving a mess hall. The final part of the clip shows a group shot of the scientists. More than 1600 scientist were recruited, some playing vital roles in the development of post-war research, including the US spaceflight programme. | |
