Hiroshima atomic bomb skin burns. Footage of skin burns caused by the atomic bomb dropped on the city of Hiroshima, Japan, by a US bomber on 6 August 1945 during World War II. The footage starts with a patient whose hair has regrown after it fell out due to the radiation effects. The clip ends with a nurse pointing out the protective effects of the trousers worn by one of the survivors. The atomic bombing destroyed most of the city. Some 70, 000 people died instantly, with tens of thousands more dying in the aftermath, and tens of thousands left injured and permanently disfigured. The nuclear bombing of Nagasaki followed on 9 August, and Japan surrendered a few days later. | |
