Virtopsy robot scanner. Time-lapse footage of a mannequin corpse being scanned by the Virtopsy robot, the Virtobot, at the Institute for Forensic Medicine, Zurich, Switzerland. A modified industrial robot is used to make comprehensive digital imagery of a body using a mounted Nikon D800 camera, and 3D scanner using blue light. A needle placement module also allows for automated biopsy samples guided by computed tomography (CT) scans. Combined with a full CT scan and post-mortem angiography, this technology can act as a triage system for conventional autopsies rendering many of them unnecessary. Footage obtained in 2016. | |
