Apollo 11 crew. In front of crowds of press photographers, the crew of the Apollo 11 mission are transported to the launch pad on July 16th 1969. Crewed by Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Buzz Aldrin, the Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket was launched from pad 39a at Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA. It was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the lunar surface on July 20th and collected material for return to Earth. Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module. They returned to Earth and landed in the Pacific Ocean on July 24th. |
