View from inside the Command Module during re-entry. Plasma starts to lick around the capsule as it hits the tenuous upper atmosphere at over 25, 000 mph. As the capsule rotates the Pacific Ocean area can be glimpsed - covered with big white clouds and giant weather systems. About three and a half minutes into the clip the drogue chutes deploy, eventually pulling out the main chutes which unfurl their gigantic orange and white canopies against a deep dark blue, cloudless sky. Bright sunlight streams into the window and the capsule swings violently on the end of the chutes down towards splashdown. Date recorded: 1972-12-19 |
