Animation of a flight over the plane of Saturn's rings. Saturn's huge ring system comprises countless tiny particles of ice, with the bright main rings extending some 80, 000 kilometres above the planet's equator. Despite their great extent, the ring system is extremely thin, ranging from just ten metres to a maximum of about a kilometre. As such, they are all but invisible when seen from the side. | |
