Globular cluster NGC 7006 . Animation of a flight through globular cluster NGC 7006, created with imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope. Also known as Caldwell 42, NGC 7006 is a distant globular cluster in the constellation of Delphinus (The Dolphin) in the outer regions of the Milky Way. It is about 135, 000 light-years away. Globular clusters are enormous spherical aggregations of stars, which get denser and denser nearer the core. They are very old objects, and typically contain stars that all formed around the same time. They have none of the star forming regions that are found in galaxies. Globular clusters orbit larger galaxies as satellites. Our Milky Way has more than 150 globular clusters. |
