Human eye. Close-up footage of a healthy human eye in profile, showing the cornea, the fully dilated pupil, the lens, and the blink reflex. The eyeball has a tough outer coat, know as the sclera; its front circular part, the cornea (appearing as a blue curve on the right), is transparent and protrudes slightly. The cornea is the main lens of the eye and performs most of the focusing. Behind the cornea is a shallow chamber full of aqueous humour (watery fluid). The cloudy blue region (centre left) is the crystalline lens which is located just behind the pupil and provides the eye with some additional focusing power. Blinking draws moisture across the eye and removes irritants. | |
