Atlantic puffin. Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica) pecking at vegetation. This species lives on and around the North Atlantic Ocean. It lives primarily on the water and is an excellent swimmer, hunting by chasing small fish underwater. It returns to land for the breeding season, nesting in colonies on northern coasts and rocky islands. Its brightly coloured bill is used in ritual mating displays. The Atlantic puffin measures about 30 centimetres in length. Photographed on Skomer Island, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK. | |
