Apatite crystals. Apatite, a widely occurring mineral, consists mostly of calcium phosphate. The crystals are generally hexagonal and the colour is usually green. Apatite occurs deep in the Earth, in igneous, as well as in metamorphic rocks. It is also an important constituent of mammal bones and teeth, and apatite-rich rocks are mined for use in phosphate fertilisers. | |
