Bohemian cuckoo bumblebee (Bombus bohemicus) resting on globe thistle (Echinops sp.). This is one of the most common cuckoo bees in Europe. Unlike other bee species, cuckoo bees do not collect pollen and nectar to feed their young. Instead, they lay their eggs in the nests of other bees and rely on the host workers to feed and take care of their young. The bohemian cuckoo bumblebee has evolved to look and smell like its host species which allows it to enter their nests undetected. | |
