Lead iodide precipitate. Lead(II) nitrate (Pb(NO3)2) forms a clear aqueous solution (0.1M concentration here, left beaker). Insoluble lead(II) iodide precipitate (PbI2) has a bright yellow colour (right beaker). When 0.2M clear aqueous solution of potassium iodide (KI) is streamed from a burette into a beaker with lead(II) nitrate (Pb(NO3)2), lead(II) iodide precipitate (PbI2) is formed (centre). The reaction is KI + Pb(NO3)2 -> PbI2 + KNO3. | |
