Illustration of the Japanese-US meteorologist Syukuro Manabe (born 1931). After receiving his doctorate from the University of Tokyo, Manabe move to the USA to work at the US Weather Bureau and has spent his career between Japan and the US. He pioneered the use of computer modelling to simulate climate variability and climate change and to probe the role of greenhouse gases in warming the atmosphere. Manabe was awarded a share of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics along with Klaus Hasselmann and Giorgio Parisi for his work. | |
