Red-tailed bumblebee (Bombus lapidarius) that has spent the night resting on a devils-bit scabious flower in a damp meadow habitat. Queens and workers are jet black with the red tail and live in small colonies nesting in old burrows or under stones. This species is common across much of the UK and central Europe. Photographed in Somerset UK, in August. | |
