Transcription is the process of making an RNA (ribonucleic acid) copy of a segment of DNA and is the first step in gene expression. Mln 944 is a DNA�binding antitumor agent that is being investigated for use as an anticancer drug. Binding of Mln 944 to tumour cell DNA prevents the binding of transcription factors, therefore preventing transcription and ultimately leading to cell death.
