Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of the brain of a 54 year old male patient who had been in a road traffic accident. The scan shows an extradural hematoma (orange, left) in the right tempoparietaloccipital region of the brain, accompanied by cerebral oedema (swelling). An extradural haematoma is a haemorrhage (accumulation of blood from internal bleeding) that occurs between the dura mater and the skull. This extradural haematoma has caused a significant mass effect on the ventricles. | |
