Organ-on-a-chip, illustration. An organ-on-a-chip (OOC) is a multi-channel 3-D microfluidic cell culture. These miniaturized systems, through combining microfluidics, electronics and biology, install human cells in mini-compartments. These cells are continuously perfused to reproduce the functionality and to simulate the activities, mechanics and physiological response of entire organs and organ systems. An organ-on-a-chip is permanently monitored thanks to an inside network of microsensors. | |
