Anna Fisher (born 1949), American astronaut and physician. In 1978, Fisher was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA. After one year basic training, she was assigned as a crew representative for the development of the remote manipulator system Canadarm. Fisher also helped to create spacesuits known as Extravehicular Mobility units (EMUs) in an extra small size. In 1984, Fisher flew to space as a mission specialist on the space shuttle STS-51A mission. Prior to her NASA career, Fisher graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from UCLA and specialized in emergency medicine. Photographed on 20th September 1978. | |
