Satellite image showing phytoplankton blooms around the Western Jason Islands off of the West Falkland Island. During southern spring and summer, the area in the South Atlantic between Falkand Islands and South America is rich in nutrients brought by the Malvinas current, a current enriched with iron and other nutrients. This creates the perfect conditions for promoting the growth for phytoplankton blooms. Imaged by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on NASA's Landsat 8 satellite, on 18th October 2020. | |
