Larval fishes are common in midwater trawls. Many species have larval forms that live in the water column as they develop, feeding on the rich plankton community closer to the surface. This pleuronectiformes was collected in a trawl between 175m and 225m depth and in the Gulf of Mexico. Image courtesy of the Journey into Midnight project, NOAA/OER. | |
