Record player stylus. Close up of a magnetic cartridge on the tone-arm of a record player turntable, showing the stylus tracking a vinyl LP record. The cartridge is an electromechanical transducer which enables vibrations picked up by the stylus from the revolving record to be converted into sound waves. The original groove was produced by reversing the process to record a sound input as variations in the groove marked on the plastic disc. The record is then played as shown to reproduce the original sound. | |
