Healed shoulder after necrotizing fasciitis. Left shoulder of a 60-year-old woman who has recovered from necrotising fasciitis, caused by a cellulitis infection that occurred following a stem cell transplant for myeloma. Also known as flesh-eating disease, necrotizing fasciitis is a rare bacterial infection of the subcutaneous tissue. The infection progresses quickly, causing blistering of the skin and necrosis (death) of the subcutaneous tissue. Treatment was with surgery (debridement) to remove infected tissue, and antibiotics and skin grafts. | |
