Cumulus mediocris clouds from above, seen from an aeroplane (engine at lower right). These are cumulus mediocris (Cu med) clouds. Cumulus clouds often form at cold fronts where the advancing, cool air forces warm air upwards. It typically occurs at under 2000 metres altitude, with the mediocris variety having a moderate vertical extent. Photographed over South Australia in the early evening in October. | |
