Treatment of ankle blister and ulcers on the leg of an 80-year-old man. Blisters form when fluid accumulates between the upper layers of the skin as they separate, usually due to some form of trauma. This can range from physical friction to a burn. An ulcer is an open sore on the skin,or a mucous membrane, that results in the destruction of the surface tissue. Ulcers are commonly found on the legs and feet, and are often due to an inadequate blood supply. They can also be caused by the infection of a wound. Here an ointment is being applied to the skin. For the application of ointment before the dressing, see image C045/6699. | |
