Knee replacement scar. Close-up of surgical staples in the knee of a 71-year-old man who has had a total knee replacement (TKR) operation. The staples are holding the edges of the surgical incision together to allow it to heal. A TKR operation involves opening up the knee joint and using surgical implants to replace the bones and cartilage of the joint. The different forms of arthritis are a common reason for a TKR operation,as well as severe injury to the knee. This patient also subsequently had compartment syndrome due to haemorrhage caused by anticoagulants. | |
