White-backed vulture taking off with a full crop after feeding. The white-backed vulture (Gyps africanus) is a medium-sized vulture. Like other vultures it is a scavenger, feeding mostly from carcasses of animals, which it finds by circling high above the ground. It breeds in trees on the savannah of west and east Africa as well as the northern parts of southern africa, laying one egg. Photographed in Zimanga private game reserve, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. | |
