Bernard Pullman (1919-1996), French quantum chemist and biochemist, working with quantum equations and chemical structures on a blackboard. Pullman specialised in quantum properties of molecules, pioneering the application of the science to aromatic hydrocarbons. He carried out research at the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) from 1946 to 1954, when he was appointed a professor at the Sorbonne in Paris. In 1959, he became Director of the Department of Quantum Biochemistry at the Physical and Chemical Biology Institute (IBPC), rising to become Director of the IBPC in 1963. In 1967, he was one of the founding members of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science. He published many books and articles, including several with his life-long collaborator and wife Alberte Pullman. Photographed in the period 1948 to 1967. | |
