Talc streak test. The streak test is used to determine the colour of a mineral in powdered form. It is done by scraping a specimen across a piece of unglazed porcelain known as a streak plate. Talc has a white or pale green streak. It is a clay mineral composed of hydrated magnesium silicate (H2Mg3(SiO3)4). Talc is defined to have hardness of 1 in the Mohs scale. | |
