Medical visualization taken from human scanned data showing the transformation of a zygote to blastocyst. The first stage shows a zygote (a fertilized egg, see top left image) which has divided into 2 cells about 24 hours after fertilization. The zygote then proceeds to divide into 4 cells after 48 hours, and from 8 cells to 12 cells in 3 days. The formation of a morula follows as 16 cells are created (see bottom center image), and once the morula enters the uterus it becomes a blastocyst (see bottom right image). A blastocyst is formed after about 5 days and resembles a hallow ball. It contains anywhere between 60-120 cells. | |
