Comparison of the size of Moon's and Earth's nuclei, computer illustration. If we enlarge the Moon to the size of the Earth, it shows that the radius of the Moon's nucleus is less than a quarter of the radius of its whole. However, the Earth's nucleus is equivalent to more than half. This difference explains why the mass of the moon is only 1.2% of that of the Earth while it occupies a volume representing 2% of the earth. | |
