Apollo 11 spacecraft pre-launch test, 1969. Personnel on the Mobile Service Structure look back at the Apollo 11 spacecraft (on top of its Saturn V rocket) as the tower is moved away during a Countdown Demonstration Test. The Apollo 11 mission was launched from pad 39a at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA, on 16 July 1969. It was the first crewed mission to land on the Moon. Crew members were Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin. Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Moon's surface on 20 July, while Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module. They returned to Earth and landed in the Pacific Ocean on 24 July. Photographed on or before 11 July 1969. | |
