Chilbolton Advanced Meteorological Radar antenna. Weather surveillance radar (WSR), also called doppler weather radar, is used to detect precipitation such as rain. The reflection of the radar off moving objects is used to track and map developing weather systems. This is the 25-metre-wide S band weather radar dish (Chilbolton Advanced Meteorological Radar) at Chilbolton Observatory in Hampshire, UK. This parabolic antenna is the largest fully-steerable weather radar in the world. The site was opened in 1967. Photographed on 28 June 2018. | |
