A blood donation is a process by which a person (donor) voluntarily offers his blood or one of its components so that it can be used during blood transfusions. First, the donor is given a medical evaluation. The blood donation is completely harmless for a healthy person. Minor side effects, such as the appearance of an ecchymosis (or bruise), a swelling of the arm, a feeling of weakness and of nausea, or a reduction in iron level may sometimes temporarily occur following a donation. The blood collected is analyzed in order to make sure that it does not contain any infectious agent. | |
