Morphine opioid molecule. Morphine is a alkaloid found in the opium poppy and in much smaller amounts in other plants and animals. It is a potent opioid pain-reliever, but it is also a narcotic and a euphoric and is highly addictive. Morphine and its various synthetic derivatives, including oxycodone, are responsible for the current opioid epidemic in the United States. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (grey), hydrogen (white), oxygen (red) and nitrogen (blue). | |
