Ceratogaulus, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal is also known as the horned gopher, and was formerly classified as Epigaulus. It is a rodent, the only known rodent to have had horns. It lived from the late Miocene to the early Pleistocene (around 12 to 2 million years ago). It reached lengths of around 30 centimetres. Its fossils have been found in North America. | |
