Launch of the Sentinel-2B satellite. Illustration of the fairing separation during the launch of the Sentinel-2B satellite (here enclosed in foil, yellow) on a Vega VV09 rocket. This launch took place on 7 March 2017 UTC (6 March local time) from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. Sentinel 2-B is part of Europe's environmental monitoring Copernicus programme. It combines high-resolution and new multi-spectral capabilities for monitoring the Earth. A related satellite, Sentinel-2A, was launched on 23 June 2015. These satellites are helping to improve agricultural practices, the monitoring of forests, the detection of pollution in lakes and coastal waters, and disaster mapping.
