Westinghouse two-phase generator. One of the two-phase generators of 5000 horsepower that were installed at the Adams Power Station on Niagara Falls, New York, USA. This generator converted the energy of the falling water into electricity in the form of an alternating current. In the 1880s and 1890s, Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) patented his initial designs for generators and related devices. These designs were licensed to Westinghouse who manufactured them. Tesla carried out research that led to key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. The Adams Power Station was constructed in 1895. | |
