Tim Peake at Cologne after landing. British astronaut Tim Peake (born 1972) being welcomed back by his family at Cologne's airport in Germany on 19 June 2016. The previous day he had landed with two other astronauts in the Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft in a steppe region of Kazakhstan. They had spent 186 days on the International Space Station (ISS). Peake (as part of the Principia mission) was the eighth European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut to complete a long-duration mission in space. He was flown directly to ESA's astronaut base in Cologne, Germany, for medical checks and for researchers to collect additional data on how his body and mind adapted to living in space. Photographed on 19 June 2016. | |
