Thin-film photovoltaic cell research. A researcher places a thin-film photovoltaic cell into a plasma deposition chamber. Using the technique of plasma (ionised vapour) deposition,a substrate can be coated with ultra-thin layers of silicon,reducing the amount of silicon required in solar cell manufacture. Thin-film technology allows photovoltaic cells to be flexible and light,semi-transparent,and capable of lamination onto windows,as well as many other applications.
