Milk snake. View of an eastern milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum) shedding its skin on a rock. Milk snakes are kingsnakes which are found in eastern USA. They are called 'milk' snakes because an old myth has it that these snakes suck milk from cows. They are ground dwelling snakes whose patterning consists of white and black patches separated by a red intermediate area. These kingsnakes feed upon other snakes, even poisonous ones. Their diet also includes small mammals, lizards and fish. When a kingsnake seizes another snake,it wraps its body firmly around, and chokes it. Photographed in Pennsylvania,USA | |
