Frogfish. Clown frogfish,or angler fish,(Antennarius maculatus) among algae. Although brightly coloured,it is inconspicuous as it remains motionless for long periods and looks like a rock or sponge. Its cryptic colouration hides it from its predators as well as its prey. It lies in wait for smaller fish, its main prey, engulfing them when they near its mouth. It uses a lure on its forehead to attract prey, which can be wiggled to simulate a fish or shrimp. It almost never swims, instead running short distances across the seabed on its spiny pectoral fins. It inhabits the tropical Indo-Pacific region | |
