Sunspot observations, made in 1835 and 1836 by the British amateur astronomer and clergyman Thomas John Hussey. The table is an example of the data collected, and includes columns for the year, the month, and the day. The last two columns show the number of sunspots (dark areas) observed and the number for the corresponding diagram for that day. Sunspots, first observed with telescopes in 1610,are areas of magnetic activity that are cooler than the rest of the Sun's surface. Sunspots are monitored over time to track solar activity | |
