Iceberg near location of Titanic's sinking. The Titanic, the largest ocean liner ever built at the time, was reputed to be unsinkable. However, during its maiden voyage it struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic on the night of the 14th April 1912 and sank with the loss of 1517 lives. This iceberg was photographed after the event, near the location of the sinking, and was part of a court case initiated to limit the liability of the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company Ltd for loss of life and property resulting from the disaster | |
