Cold fusion: experimental apparatus used in the Physics Dept. at Birmingham University to investigate the results of Fleischmann & Pons, who,in March 1989,claimed to have created sustained cold fusion energy production in a simple electrolytic cell. The British & American electrochemists' method involved passing an electric current between palladium & platinum electrodes immersed in a solution of heavy water and lithium. Here,an uncovered row of similar cells and neutron detectors (copper tubes) are embedded in paraffin wax. Detection of certain high-energy neutrons is consistent with nuclear fusion. Power supply equipment is in background. Blue lighting | |
