Nuclear waste storage. Worker inspecting concrete shells that will be used to store nuclear waste. All components used in the nuclear fuel cycle must be disposed of properly,according to their level of radioactivity. These concrete shells are used for low-level nuclear waste,which is only slightly radioactive. It is sorted and incinerated or melted down,and then stored in barrels or metal ingots. The concrete shells used to surround them will help absorb the radiation. This is the Centraco factory,in Marcoule,France. Photographed in 2004
