Personal radiation dose meter (dosimeter). This is designed to be worn as a ring on a person's finger. It is worn by people who are exposed to radiation regularly during their work. A piece of material within the dosimeter becomes pitted when hit by radiation. The number of pits is proportional to the amount of radiation, allowing a person's daily exposure to be calculated. There are strict limits to the amount of radiation to which nuclear industry workers, and those working with radioactive materials in laboratories, can be exposed. Personal dosimeters are used to keep track of an individual's overall exposure levels | |
