Simulation of a manned Mars mission. NASA researcher wearing a spacesuit outside the habitation module at FMARS,the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station, located in the Canadian Arctic. During each mission, which lasts several months over the Arctic summer, the researchers have to use spacesuits to exit the habitation module. FMARS is one of several Mars simulation programs run by the international Mars Society. The aim is to test equipment and habitat designs in harsh conditions like those found on Mars, and to observe the effect on human crews. Several missions have been completed since the project began in 2000 | |
