Simulation of a manned Mars mission. Researchers in spacesuits outside the habitation module at FMARS,the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station, located in the Canadian Arctic. The four flags painted on the module are (left to right) for: Canada, the USA,the Canadian territory of Nunavut, and finally the Mars tricolor (red, green and blue). FMARS is one of several Mars simulation programs run by the international Mars Society. The aim is to test equipment and habitat designs in harsh conditions like those found on Mars, and to observe the effect on human crews. Work at FMARS is carried out over several months in the Arctic summer. Several missions have been completed since the project began in 2000 | |
