Double planet system of two similar-sized planets orbiting each other as they orbit a yellow dwarf star. Our Earth-Moon system can be considered a double planet system as the Moon is a relatively large satellite for an Earth-sized planet. The other moons of the solar system are much smaller than their parent planets. Indeed, the moons of Mars and some of the outer moons of the gas giants are thought to be asteroids, probably captured long after the parent planet formed. In contrast, the planets of a double planet system are likely to have been formed at around the same time | |
